This will be the last posting for the 2017-2018 School Year. We hope everyone has a great last few days of the school year and a wonderful summer!

The PTO Needs Your Help in 2018-2019

The PTO is looking for volunteers for next year, specifically in the following areas:

  • MakerStudio Volunteers (need 2 additional volunteers): Volunteer in the MakerStudio to help clean, organize, and oversee the room.  This will also include helping to manage the inventory of supplies.  The schedule is flexible and ideally one or two can volunteer, on a rotating schedule once a week, while the classroom is empty (usually midday during school lunchtimes).
  • Science Fair: Organize this one time event for Bancroft students, including the purchase and distribution of posterboards and shirts, generally in February.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Help coordinate between the school and parents for volunteer opportunities within the school.
  •  Backpack and Holiday Present Drive: Help coordinate donations of backpacks/supplies and holiday gifts for Bancroft students in need.
  • PTO Display Case: Update the PTO display case each month to feature events and other information.
  • Movie Night: Organize these two events for Bancroft children and their special adults, generally in September (for grades K-2) and in March or April (for grades 3-5).
  • Variety Show: Organize the Variety Show to be performed for the school and families, generally in March or April, supervise rehearsals and manage the show, create program, and manage ticket sales.
  • Teacher luncheons: Organize special lunches for Bancroft staff and teachers.
  • Spring Fling: Organize this one time event for Bancroft children and their special adults, generally in May, including establishing a theme and decorations, and obtaining volunteers to donate various items.

School Supply Drive

Bancroft is joining all Andover Elementary Schools in a collection of school supplies that are not needed at home.  We want to first encourage your children to take home what can be used for summer fun or for next year.  In the event there are items you would like your child to leave at school or if you have a stash of school related supplies (think markers, crayons, pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, glue sticks, kids scissors, erasers, pencil cases etc) at home that you would like to donate, there will be cardboard boxes marked “School Supplies” in each grade area and outside the main office the week of June 18th.

We appreciate your considering this community drive.  All items collected will be sorted by volunteers and donated to new schools in the Rohingya Refugee Camps in Bangladesh. Markers that no longer work will be recycled through Crayola by Karen Torres.

If you have any questions please contact Melissa Nelson at melissa.nelson6@me.com. This program is initiated by Green Schools Andover.

Bancroft Backpack Drive

Many years ago, a young Andover student began a backpack drive to provide new backpacks and supplies for Andover children whose families may need some extra help. That student graduated from Phillips last year, and so the Bancroft PTO has taken this drive over for our students. Thus, we’d appreciate your help in collecting brand new backpacks and related school supplies for us to compile and provide to these families.  Please sign up here to help!

Finally, if your family could use this extra assistance, please let Sara know at president@bancroftpto.org.

End of the Year Teacher Appreciation Lunch

The annual End of Year Bancroft Teachers & Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held on June 28th! For the first time, we’re asking the parents of K and 1st grade students to host (we already asked 4-5 parents in December and 2-3 parents in May), and are asking for a SALAD theme (so the food coordinates). This is a wonderful and much appreciated event for our Bancroft teachers and staff.
