Dear Bancroft Parents,

We would like to introduce ourselves.  We are the members of the Bancroft Literacy Team:  Mrs. Lauren King (Learning Specialist), Mrs. Lynne Vaughan, Mrs. Lisa Besen, and Mrs. Kim Dell Isola.  Our role is to support the reading instruction and Title 1 programming at our school.

During the course of the year, your child may come to the Reading Room with a member of the Literacy Team for small group reading instruction. Children come several times a week, based on need.

We have already begun to meet with many students to check for reading behaviors and to determine the “just right” reading level of these children.  In our small groups, we will use the leveled texts in the Bancroft Book Room, and other materials to work on reading strategies that directly support and reinforce classroom instruction.  When the children return from the small group, they will seamlessly join the ongoing literacy activities in their classroom.

The Literacy Team looks forward to working hand in hand with your child’s teacher to monitor progress and provide support as indicated by your child’s performance on reading tasks.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher who will confer with the Literacy Team as necessary. 

Once again, many thanks to the PTO and the Andover school system for the generous support that has made our book room possible.   Our collection continues to expand and has become a valuable resource for all the staff at Bancroft.
